Cheap accommodation in Sandnes for business travellers – a guide for contract workers and commuters

Travelling to the Sandnes area for work? Here is how to find cheap, reliable accommodation without compromising on comfort or commute.

The Sandnes and Stavanger region is full of business travellers: contract workers on supplier projects, technicians on industrial jobs, consultants on short engagements, locum staff in healthcare. They all share the same problem: accommodation makes up a significant share of the total cost of the trip – and it has to work in practice, not just look good in photos.

What does "cheap" actually mean?

For a business traveller staying 5–20 nights, the per-night price is not the only number that matters. You also need to think about:

  • Parking – paying 200 NOK per night quickly adds 4,000 NOK over 20 nights.
  • Tolls and commute – staying on the wrong side of town means driving through several toll rings every day.
  • Food – is there a grocery store within walking distance, or do you have to eat at expensive restaurants?
  • WiFi – do you need to work in the evening? A hotel without proper WiFi costs you working hours.

"Cheap" is whatever gives the lowest total cost across the whole stay, not the lowest number on the first night.

Where in the region does it pay to stay?

Sandnes city centre has a number of hotel rooms, but many are priced at the same level as Stavanger city centre. The Forus area, just north of Sandnes, is often cheaper because demand is more even (business travellers, not conference peaks):

  • Forus is 9 minutes by car from Sandnes city centre.
  • Forus is 5 minutes by car from Forus business park.
  • Forus has free parking at smaller places to stay.
  • Forus has groceries and restaurants within walking distance.

Smaller stays > big hotels for longer trips

For 1–4 week stays, smaller, personally run accommodation is often a better choice than big hotels: fixed prices, a known host, consistent quality, and no surprises on the bill.

Forus Hotell

Forus Hotell is a small place to stay in the Forus area, halfway between Sandnes and Stavanger. One room, a private bathroom, free parking, free WiFi. We are happy to host contract workers on longer stays – feel free to contact us via Airbnb for long-stay rates. More info on the home page.
